Editor’s Note: In October 2024, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) published the article The Role of Government Venture Capital in Innovation-Driven Entrepreneurship (hereinafter referred to as the "Article"). The Article positions Government Venture Capital (GovVC) as a policy instrument that complements Private Venture Capital (Private VC) by funding innovation-driven enterprises (IEFs) that may struggle to attract traditional venture capital investments.
Leveraging integrated datasets on startups, investors, and patents, and incorporating surveys of ministry experts to identify GovVC entities, the study analyzes the role of GovVC across OECD member states.
