Report Compilation | Advancing India’s Structural Transformation and Catch-up to the Technology Frontier Released by IMF
December 09, 2024

In July 2024, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) released the Advancing India’s Structural Transformation and Catch-up to the Technology Frontier (hereinafter referred to as "the Report"). The Report highlights that, despite India’s strong economic growth in recent decades, its structural transformation remains incomplete. The research found that while India’s economic growth has shifted from agriculture to services, agriculture still remains a major economic pillar. Moreover, the development of India’s technological frontier is uneven, with limited technological progress in agriculture, construction, and trade, while large enterprises tend to exhibit stronger performance. The Report asserts that India will need to create 143 to 324 million jobs for its growing population by 2050, and structural reforms can help India create high-quality employment opportunities and accelerate economic growth.
